1) καθὼς γέγραπται· τὸν Ἰακὼβ ἠγάπησα, τὸν δὲ Ἠσαῦ ἐμίσησα. (Rom 9:13)
Translation: Just as it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
Parsing: ἠγάπησα – First Aorist Active Indicative 1st Singular, ἀγαπάω. Augment causes initial α to lengthen; the contract vowel α lengthens because of σ tense formative after it.
ἐμίσησα – First Aorist Active Indicative 1st Singular, μισέω. The same lengthening occurs to the contract vowel ε.
2) ὅτι οὐκ ἐποιήσαμεν τὰς ἐντολάς σου οὐ γὰρ ἐπορεύθημεν ἐν ἀληθείᾳ ἐνώπιόν σου. (Tobit 3:5)
Translation: For we have not done your commandments, for we have not walked truly (lit. “in truth”) before you.
Parsing: ἐποιήσαμεν – First Aorist Active Indicative 1st Plural, ποιέω. Contract vowel lengthens again.
3) καὶ ἐποίησεν ὁ θεὸς τοὺς δύο φωστῆρας τοὺς μεγάλους τὸν φωστῆρα τὸν μέγαν εἰς ἀρχὰς τῆς ἡμέρας καὶ τὸν φωστῆρα τὸν ἐλάσσω εἰς ἀρχὰς τῆς νυκτός καὶ τοὺς ἀστέρας (Gen 1:16)
Translation: And God made the two great luminaries, the great luminary to rule the day and the lesser luminary to rule the night, and the stars.
Parsing: ἐποίησεν – Aorist active indicative 3rd singular, ποιέω.
